Sophia’s Rock Beat: 9/08/11-9/24/11

9/8 we went to Church – first of the night was Hayley Jane & The Primates – Hayley was in the Liars & Believers play, Song of Songs, that The Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library opened up for – she has a stunning voice that was in full gear for this set. video 1, video 2

next up: Big East – who we somehow had never caught in full band mode – which is outrageous and happily rectified now – I think they’ve been described as a liquor-soaked bar band – but they are so much more than that – singer, Jeffrey Vachon has an incredible stage presence (at once totally engaged and energetic without a hint of pretentiousness) – I took four vids! video 1, video 2, video 3, video 4

Banana Phonetic closed out the night with atmospheric pop songs – video 1, video 2

9/15 we caught Somerville Symphony Orkestar at PA’s Lounge, but I didn’t have my camera – luckily we caught them again on 9/22 at Precinct as part of the Kurt Vonnegut, Jr tribute night (they used to have a bandmember that was the direct grandson of KVJ) – video of that show: video 1, video 2 (video 2 is dark but features me running around & playing uke along to their cover of Pink Elephants). Space Balloons (the children’s music band I’m in also played) – here’s our song about Ice-9 (from Cat’s Cradle).

Recurring theme of forgetting my camera – we caught Andre Obin opening for Peter Hook at The Paradise and we caught Bearstronaut at The Pill – no videographic evidence, unfortunately.
