This article originally appeared on Boston Band Crush ). The Luxury owned The Paradise stage on Saturday, July 11th. Playing in front of a packed house, they exhibited the polish, charm and great songs it took to get them here. They played the new record, In The Wake Of What Won’t Change (recorded in the wake of winning The Rumble!) from start to finish, with video accompaniment (you can watch all of the animations on their website).
Kelly Davis (singer for the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra and Gunpowder
Gelatine – an all girl Queen tribute) and two girls on strings joined them for many of the songs.
An early highlight of their set was the song, Straitjacket, where the band was joined by Chris Barret (from Logan 5 and the Runners, and many,
many other projects) and Matt Girard (from The Motion Sick, and many, many other projects) both on trumpet.
After plowing through the album, they did two impeccable covers: “Pinball Wizard” by The Who, and “Head over Heels” by Tears for Fears. They wrapped up the night with a few favorites from their previous record including “Seven Stories” and “Malcontent”. All in all, The Luxury rose to new heights on Saturday, putting on a varied and entertaining set and showing us all that they belong up there.
