This article originally appeared on Boston Band Crush ). The legendary punk band Youth Brigade is playing Sunday at The Middle East. They are touring to promote Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records (out 9/22), a new release featuring a 31-track compilation album and 90 minute documentary film. The album features bands like NoFX, Youth Brigade, Bouncing Souls and Pennywise covering their favorite songs from the extensive BYO Records catalog.

History: The Stern brothers, members of Youth Brigade, started BYO as a youth organization amidst the burgeoning LA punk scene in 1982. BYO promoted non-violent punk shows during a time when the scene was rife with fighting and police altercations. The organization evolved into a record label, releasing the seminal ‘Someone Got Their Head Kicked In’ compilation. Youth Brigade was also immortalized in the film ‘Another State Of Mind,’ an early punk rock documentary that followed the band on a national tour with Social Distortion.
