This article originally appeared on Boston Band Crush ). Boomerangs, a hip thrift store in JP, is starting up a Thursday music series. The first one is this Thursday, October 8th.
The Bands:
GIRLFRIENDS is a new 3-piece trashy pop band influenced by all of the hippest bands from each decade. ’60s: Roy Orbison, Beach Boys, The Kinks, Swamp Rats. ’70s: The Ramones, The Clash, Dead Boys, 999. ’80s/’90s: My Bloody Valentine, The Fall, Floor, The Clean. This is their first show but they’ve got a pedigree to brag about; the band includes members (past and present) of Mmoss and Magma Divers, Emeen Z Band and Mean Creek, The Lido Venice and Christians & Lions. Expect fuzzed out bass, stompalong drums, reverb-drenched guitar and vocals that alternate between mushmouth deadpanning and wailing through a megaphone. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we hear about these guys.
DAN WHOLEY + PHRIENDS
Dan Wholey, principle songwriter and band leader for the Earth People Orchestra (myspace.com/earthpeopleorchestra), returns with two other ex-Earth People to bring his signature belted wail and finely crafted indie pop (complete with violin and lapsteel) to Boomerangs.
