We’re also going to have one on friday, the lose control party, I think at 8PM or so.
2. How did you get your SXSW gig?
J- We’re forced at gunpoint to play or else they hurt our pet chinchilla.
Record labels are really mean.
H – Our label wanted to show us off! Or something like that. Sub Pop was
super nice to have us on their big awesome show:)
3. Is this your first time at SXSW?
Nope – we played last year as well. T’was a delicious boon.
4. If you’ve gone before, have you performed (how did it go) or were you just in attendance?
J- Oh, we played alright. A few times. We almost died at a warehouse show
we played last year at the hands of a crazy drug addled raver dude… which
was harsh… but we pulled out alive.
H- That guy had a Dr Seuss hat on…
5. How important do you think it is to have an “official” showcase?
J – I really don’t know… different people get into different scenes at
SXSW, some people really dig the more organized, official shows, and others seem far more interested in bumming about from free day show to free day show… I just hope, like, 10 or 15 people come to ours and don’t vomit.
H – No idea either… I’m sure it helps though it’s not at all needed to make
it worth coming down.
6. What do you hope to achieve by playing at SXSW?
J – We plan on achieving tans, BBQ consumption, and friends-who-we-don’t-often-get-to-see hanging-outing.
H- I hope to swim.
7. How do you plan to use the conference to promote yourself?
Well, we’re big fans of Leaving It To the Fates. Music and culture are
self sustaining, y’know. All you have to do is let them be righteous and
fun, and they will be!
8. Are you attending any of the actual conference? Are you attending other
shows, what shows/bands are you looking forward to?
J – I personally haven’t even seen a full confirmed band list… I’m sure we’ll want to see 50 shows, and actually end up seeing 4… but there’s no use in pushing an agenda. We don’t own a record label – we just write funny songs about funny things.
H – We’ll most likely blow along with the winds, too much rushing around
gets crazy and exhausting!
9. Do you expect that Boston will have a strong showing this year?
J – Well, i’m sure Passion Pit will be there, and that’s really all anyone
cares about, right 😉
H – I’ve only seen PP at festivals, I’ll probably continue that tradition,
I’m lookin’ forward to hearing their full length…
You probably know better than us! I’m not sure who else is coming down, a
lot of the Boston bands we really like either don’t travel or stopped playing recently. I’d love to see more friends down there, maybe we’ll be surprised!
