Rockville, CA is a new web-based show with an interesting twist. The show is set in a fictional rock club in Los Angeles (Club Rockville) and there are non-fictional bands performing and serving as backdrop to the story in each episode. The show is a particularly interesting venture because it is the work of Josh Schwartz (creator/exec. producer Gossip Girl, The O.C.) and famed music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Twilight, Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy). Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C., in particular, were known for subversively feeding super-hip indie music to the most mainstream of audiences. (The truth is, it’s tough to tell the difference nowadays as Ben Gibbard’s music is always hitting #1.) This may also be the first really successful behemoth-produced web series if the kids get behind it.
There are rumors flying around the Boston music scene that the Rockville producers will be nominating music scouts in each city to help bring the best super-underground indie music to the show. Debcha over at Zed=Zee is already on their radar and people affiliated with the show keep commenting on her blog, so if this local scout thing is true, I’d say that she is a very likely candidate.
