I guess this is an internet meme that has been going around for awhile, most recently the boys over at The Motion Sick Blog have compiled their own lists, which is where I first saw it.
The 80s were really hard! There were so many albums vying for top place, so I did my best picking favorites:
Bruce Springsteen – Born in USA
Sisters of Mercy – First last and always
The Smiths – The Queen is Dead
New Order – Substance
Leonard Cohen – I’m your man (honorable mentions: Y Kant Tori Read -I legitimately like this album, Blue Clocks Green “Hemingway” – a longtime favorite of mine and many Upstate NYers)
Pixies – Doolittle
Ministry- In case you didn’t feel like showing up
Bob Dylan – The Bootleg Series Volumes 1–3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961–1991 (this is a great collection, and is the only legitimate way to hear the original recording of “Blood on the Tracks” which is a very interesting listen to the avid fan)
Tom Waits – Bone Machine (as any fan of blitzkriegbliss would know)
Violent Femmes: Add It Up (1981-1993)
Nick Cave – Let Love In (1994 had bunches of contenders, but this album would make any top 5 list for me -same goes for my 1995 choice)
PJ Harvey – To Bring You My Love
Concrete Blonde – Recollection: The Best of
Joy Division – Heart and Soul Box Set
Placebo – Without You I’m Nothing (there wasn’t much to choose from for 1998, and I actually like “Black Market Music” better)
The Magnetic Fields – 69 Love Songs
Einsturzende Neubauten – Silence is Sexy (if for “Sabrina” alone)
Kylie Minogue – Fever (again, not my favorite album ever, but the pickings were slim for 2001, and I did actually listen to this album a bunch at the time-me and all the other record store hipsters)
Bright Eyes – Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
Muse – Absolution
Modest Mouse – Good News for People Who Love Bad News (I actually like We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank better, but I like Neon Bible much more than Arcade Fire’s first album)
The Cardigans – Super Extra Gravity
Silversun Pickups – Carnavas
Arcade Fire – Neon Bible
Dead Confederate – S/T EP
[…] 10. Music Licensing Sites: (e.g., Taxi, Broadjam, Youlicense, Sonicbids)Getting your music heard is hard work. You need to be willing to put in the time (and money) to make it happen. There are a number of music-licensing services that can help you find placements that will provide you with exposure (and money) for your music. Rather than rewriting the whole summary here, I point you to a past entry I did on music licensing resources at: https://blog.mikeandsophia.com/2008/07/httpwww-mikeandsophia-com200807dnfmomd-favorite-records-from-each-year-html/#8230; […]
